What a resin ashes pendant is
A resin ashes pendant has an ashes-bearing resin feature, usually held within or attached to a jewellery setting. It is not simply a hollow container. The appearance depends on the resin system, pigments, inclusion and design, so ask the maker to explain their particular method and finished surface.
Choosing colour and ash visibility
You might prefer a pale background that lets the inclusion show, or a deeper colour with a subtler effect. Explain whether seeing the ashes is important to you. Ask what can be controlled and what varies naturally; a sample is useful for understanding a style, not guaranteeing an exact pattern.
The setting and how you will wear it
The setting affects both the appearance and the way the pendant meets clothing or other jewellery. Consider the profile, edges and how much of the resin is exposed. Choose a metal on its disclosed composition and care requirements, particularly if you already know certain jewellery materials irritate your skin.
Before you commission a pendant
Agree the colour direction, placement, pendant size and any inscription before sending ashes. Find out whether a proof covers only the layout or also the inclusion itself. Ask how much material is requested, how it is identified and whether unused material is returned with the completed piece.
Decide whether resin suits your keepsake
Read the maker’s guidance on water, cosmetics, heat and sunlight before deciding how you will wear the pendant. If you are drawn to a different surface or making method, compare a glass pendant. Your preferred appearance and the care you can comfortably follow should both influence the choice.
Questions you might have
Can I choose how visible the ashes are?
Discuss this before commissioning. Visibility depends on colour, transparency, placement and the maker’s method; it is not always something that can be specified exactly.
Will my pendant look exactly like a sample?
Not necessarily. The arrangement and appearance of inclusions can vary. Ask which features the sample represents and which details will be individual.
What should I ask about water, sunlight and heat?
Ask for the maker’s specific limits on immersion, prolonged sunlight, heat and cosmetics. Do not assume that advice for an ordinary metal pendant applies to the resin feature.
